Traditionally, the Northern Cheyenne wore clothing that was completely made out of the environment around them (wild game and natural dyes from the earth). Then as settlers moved west in the 1800’s, more trading occurred and Cheyennes started using beads and modern fabrics to continue making their traditional clothing.

Today, this clothing is referred to as regalia. They are now primarily worn for powwows (social gatherings), ceremonies (times of prayer), or other special occasions. Regalia is significant in the culture of the tribe. It serves as a bridge to the past, connecting them with their ancestors and their spiritual beliefs. The regalia is a visual representation of their cultural identity and is an expression of their deep respect for the natural world.”
